"Hm?" Maya looked up from the book that he was reading as Lit Pumpkub made their way over with something being held in their jell. That seemed unusual, since usually jellheads didn't keep things in their jell for very long, so the canine put the bookmark in place and closed the book before setting it aside so that he could dedicate his attention to the hybrid before him.
"Whatcha got there, little buddy?" he asked the orange and green anthro, reaching a hand up to pet the warm jell and coax it to release whatever it was holding captive. It took a little more coaxing than just the pets, but the anthro dog got it away from the other anthro and looked at what he found in his hands. "Huh... Isn't this...?" he asked more to himself than to anyone else. Maya vaguely remembered a notice going out, not that long ago, about a new type of jellbean that was discovered during New Years. Weren't the scientists offering a reward for any kind of information on these things? But what kind of information were they looking for?
As he pondered this, two paws quickly grabbed the little ball with a face on it, and threw it before Lit Pumpkub took off running after it, clearly looking to keep itself entertained with its newest pouncing target. "No! Lit! Get back here!" Maya called out as he quickly got to his feet to chase the Halloween hybrid, managing to catch it by the alligator's tail before it actually landed on the round bean. "Easy, lil friend," he cooed, pulling the jellhead by the tail until he could wrap his arm around the warm, but really soft, torso. Getting the cub under control, he stepped over and picked up the jellbean and looked it over to see if it had taken any damage from that little adventure. Nothing seemed to have changed, the wide eyes and the sly kitty smile were still perfectly intact on its surface.
"I guess that's one thing to note down... Or a couple of things, I guess. It can handle rough playing from a playful jellhead, and it bounces pretty well," he noted aloud, though he needed to go get a pad to write on so that the 'research' didn't go to waste. With that decided, Maya carried both the jellbean and the jellhead back to the tree that he had been reading under and set them down. He then knelt down to go digging through his bag to pull out a sketch book and flipped it open to a page that hadn't been drawn on yet. In messy handwriting, which he hoped that others would be able to figure out, he started making notes.

With those noted down, he hummed and picked the strange jellbean back up and rolled it around in his hand. "I don't think it took on any of your heat, either," he muttered, brown eyes glancing to where the hybrid was back on all fours, pouncing and pulling out blades of grass. He offered a soft laugh and shook his head. "We should probably find your owner, huh? Then maybe I can focus some more on trying to figure out what the properties of this thing is," he stated. Maya picked up his bag and slung it over his shoulder, then tried a couple of times to catch the jack-o-lantern themed hybrid before finally getting it held by the torso once more.
"I'm sure HCMI can help us track down where you came from... And where you found this bean. Maybe that'll be something worth making a note of, too. Because we don't know where they originate from, do we?" he didn't know if the scientists knew or not, but he sure had no clue. So figuring that out also seemed like a good idea. For now, though, he had to figure out where HCMI had wandered off too...
